On October 18th, 1968, one of the most
famous “Living Legends” was paid tri-
bute (and this was witnessed by millions
via the televised program on the NBC
Kraft Music Hall) on the CMA Awards
Show by being elected into the “Country
Music Hall of Fame”, and receiving not
one but two standing ovations by the
toughest audience in the world, the per-
formers and executives, the Disc Jockeys,
and the fans of the music business. Bob
Wills was presented his award into the
Hall of Fame by the two other living Hall
of Famers, Tex Ritter and Roy Acuff. This
is the greatest honor anyone connected
with Country and Western music can
receive.

to everyone in his white stetson, big
cigar, and ever present grin.. .a proud
man, with the faintest trace of tears in
his eyes. After a pause (to gain control?)
he spoke of how happy he was and said
his thank yous, then he removed his hat,
made a bow and said “I never take this
hat off for anybody, but I’m taking it
off for all of you here tonight.” What
greater way could he have said, “Thank
you?”

this story on Bob Wills, I began extensive
research on him. Information on him was
hard to find, but with the help of CMA,
Columbia Records and a few friends along
the way, I came up with the following
material. I sincerely hope that none of
the sources were misleading. If so, I assure
all of you and especially Mr. Wills that it
is unintentional.)...
