I called Johnny Bond at his Hollywood
home to tell him we wanted to do a
story on him for Country Song Roundup
and his wife Dorothy explained that he
was not at home but could be reached
at another number. It turned out to be
the number of the office of the Academy
of Country & Western Music (an organ-
ization for recognition of west coast ar-
tists) for which Johnny is the President.
He is also on the Board of Directors
for the Country Music Association.
Although Johnny makes his home in
Hollywood with his wife and two of his
three daughters (his middle daughter Jean-
nie is married and now has a daughter
of her own) he makes frequent trips to
Nashville, to record, to seek material for
recording and to attend the annual con-
vention.
The Johnny Bond’s are close friends
with the Tex Ritter’s and Johnny recently
signed a recording pact with Capitol Rec-
ords, joining Tex on the label. Johnny
and Tex are also in business together,
co-owning. Vidor Music and Red River
Songs. Plans are in the making for
Johnny to do an album with another
close friend, Merle Travis, consisting of
tunes made famous by the Delmore Bro-
thers.
Just picture a man that is respected
and loved by friends, fans and fellow
performers the world over and you have
a picture of Johnny Bond. He is a mild
mannered, soft spoken, friendly person
who is a living legend in the annals of
show business. He is a man who has
been through to stop and shake hands
and chat with the fellow on the street.
He is a friend to everyone he meets.
Many people now activelv engaged in
the music business can speak thusly of
him: “Johnny Bond, sure, he’s the man
who gave me my first chance in this
business.”
He is never too busy to help someone
who is trying to break into the business
or too busy to listen to the troubles of
a friend and to offer help and advise. He
Is one man that everyone has something
good to say about. One of Johnny’s out-
standing qualities is that if he hasn’t
anything good to say about someone, he
says nothing at all. Johnny Bond is a
