Few of us ever really develop a keen
appreciation for the act of life. .We most
often take our existence for granted, half
believing that our Maker owes us the breath
of life because we are such interesting,
entertaining creatures. There is a man
living in Nashville, Tennessee, who has
learned the value of life. He appreciates
each blessed opportunity to rise again
from a splintered mass of twisted metal
and shattered glass, after feeling the cool
hand of death at the nape of his neck.
It is little wonder that Country Singer
Extraordinaire Warner Mack can warble
a happy song, then turn around and sing
a sad song that will chill to the bone,
because he is well familiar with both sides
of life.
There may be some debate on whether
that 1964 automobile crash marked the
turning point in Warner’s professional
life, but he’ll be the first to admit it
reshaped his outlook. We don’t mean to
imply that the young Mister Mack has
a serious turn all the time. He was brought
up by his minister father to honor God,
family and country. He was also brought
up with a strong appreciation for music.
He met music at home and grew up with
a knack for entertaining that couldn’t help
but spell stardom.
It should be noted here that Warner
had a better chance than most to survive
that auto accident. Warner is blessed with
a physical structure worthy of an Olympic
champion. It is only by chance that Warner
chose country music over a career in
athletics. His skill in both football and
baseball during High School merited his
several scholarship offers from Mississippi
and Louisiana Universities and the offer
of a “Pro” baseball contract from the St.
Louis Cards.
Not only are Warner’s many fans ap-
preciative of his decision to follow music
rather than sports as his profession, but
many artists are thankful for the choice
he made. Warner earned their professional
gratitude by composing material for several
fellow artists, including Brenda Lee, Pat
Boone, Loretta Lynn, Bill Anderson, Webb
Pierce, Kitty Wells, Jeanie Shepherd, just
to name a few.
Warner is really in his own element
when performing. His frequent appear-
ances on the Grand Ole Opry are always
notable and his free swinging style has en-
livened many of the top country music
TV shows. Warner loves the physical and
mental work-out offered by long public
appearance tours and greets every audi-
ence as a new challenge to his personal
magnetism.
Since Warner Mack was bom in Nash-
ville and recorded his first record only
six blocks from where he lived as a child,
he can truly be termed a “True Country
Singer,” Nashville’s own, a distinction
no artist we know of, who has made it
“big,” can put claim to.
As made obvious by these pictures there
is nothing that Warner likes better than
being around his new home in Hender-
sonville, Tenn, with his wife Peggy, and
children Sherrie, Melodie and Marty.
