Description
This is an
1897 Vanderman manufacturing company railroad strongbox that was left in a house that we purchased many years ago. I've seen a few of these listed as hauling gold bullion for the railroads in the 1800's. Please see all details below.

This is a Vanderman Strong Box Gold Bullion Railroad Goldrush Chest from the late 1890's. These were made in several different sizes and styles, but all of them were made out of ultra heavy-duty materials to last a lifetime (or several). A steel body, wrapped in extra thick oak slats, complete with heavy-duty rivets and steel hardware is what held these trunks together. This is the largest version they ever manufactured weighing in at
125 pounds
with a total of six handles all the way around as it took six men to move this strong box when full with six gold bullion bars it weighed 975 pounds!!! These things were made to last FOREVER
It has the original tray inside. It also has the original chain and lock hardware, which is very rare and not often found still intact on these treasures. Hardware on the corners where the pins would go to secure the box as it traveled. All 6 of the solid steel handles are intact and work properly.
